If you’ve been lusting after one of the Nexus ‘Live Cases’ that Google launched in the US last month, then news of a new special edition case from artist Jeff Koons launching on the Google Store tomorrow will probably be a bit of a let down.

The case launching tomorrow will showcase the art of one Jeff Koons, an American artist who according to Wikipedia is ‘known for working with popular culture subjects and his reproductions of banal objects—such as balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror-finish surfaces’. I don’t know, I`m just not that into art.

But it could extend beyond Mr Koons, with his proclivity for working with pop culture icons, other big name artists are going mad for the concept, or at least they’re talking about it on social media. Artists like Pharrell Williams on Twitter, and Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson and U2 on Instagram :

Google’s standard Live Cases give you a custom printed case for your Nexus 5X, 6 or 6P, with either a map of your choosing or a custom picture uploaded by you, printed on a case. The Live Case also has a built-in NFC button that interacts with a custom live wallpaper on your phone – though what that button could do on a custom case like this hasn’t been announced.

As usual, the cases are only going to be available in the US, so unless you want to start getting a live case sent to a shipping forwarder you’re out of luck here in Australia.

I’m no expert on such things but, judging from the pictures you’ve put up, these spherical cases look a touch unwieldy…
