Every now and then we like to branch out our coverage into the larger consumer electronics market, because there’s a whole world of stuff out there and some of it is cool, interesting, or compelling. This is one of those. We especially like reporting on and doing our bit to promote Australian products, companies and services, so when we came across an Australian company with an excellent dash camera, even though it doesn’t run on Android we thought you might all be interested in it as well.
Dash Cameras are definitely becoming more popular in Australia, you can’t drive to work without seeing them on people’s dashboards, and most of us would know at least one person who has one or wants one.
Dash Cams — like most consumer electronics — come in all shapes, sizes, configurations, feature sets, etc. We could spend ages just covering the basics of them. We’re going to assume you all grasp the basic concept of an always-on video recorder which (usually) points out the front windscreen of your car, to record you driving and potential mishaps.

With the combination of Dash Camera, GPS, on display maps and full library of school zones and speed and red light cameras the Navig8r Pro X can help keep you informed about the roads you’re driving on to reduce infringements caused by inattention to your situation. Of course, a dash camera is no substitute for paying attention to what you’re doing, but it can come in handy if someone else isn’t paying attention, and they come ploughing into your vehicle.
The device also comes with PC software that allows you to extract detailed information about your drives including routes, speeds, a Google Maps integration and other important details that may help with an infringement notice or an insurance claim.
We’re certainly interested in a locally made and device that is made and aware of the Australian roads and laws.
