Samsung isn’t only launching phones at their New York event, they’ve also introduced the Samsung DeX.

Samsung DeX is a dock like device that will allow you to access an ‘Android-based desktop-like experience’, which Samsung says features a completely redesigned Android UI that’s optimised for use with a keybaord and mouse. In the desktop environment you can have multiple windows open that you can re-size to your personal preferences. The desktop has a built-in full desktop web browser, and Samsung has worked with both Adobe and Microsoft to enable compatibility with key products like Adobe Acrobat, Lightroom and of course the full Microsoft Office suite.

The dock will connect through USB-C and connect via HDMI to your monitor or TV with additional USB ports available to plug in keyboard and mouse to turn your phone into the ultimate productivity device. The DeX will be compact, folding up to a puck which will fit comfortably in a pocket or in a bag for easy storage or travel.

Injong Rhee, CTO of the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, said of the DeX

The smartphone has become the central point for the modern mobile professional, and when giving a presentation or editing documents remotely, it means they can work effectively using just their smartphone. We developed Samsung DeX with the highly mobile worker in mind, giving them a convenient and flexible desktop experience

The DeX is of course coming to Australia with the launch of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ on April 28th, with Samsung Australia listing the price for the dock at $199.
