After multiple leaks, the Chromecast Generation 3 didn’t make it to the stage of the Made by Google event this morning, but it’s appeared on the Google Store, though there’s no mention of special features or Bluetooth.

As we saw in multiple leaks, this latest generation Chromecast has a re-designed look with a matte finish and the Chrome logo replaces by the now more familiar ‘G’ logo from the Made by Google line. The new Chromecast has also apparently lost the magnetic connector of the Gen 2 Chromecast, but that’s about the only other visual change.

Internally, despite a trip through the FCC for certification which included Bluetooth back in August, the Google Store listing makes no mention of it, simply listing that it ‘Supports all wireless networks WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz)’.

The Chromecast again uses a 5V/1A Micro-USB power source to keep it running – or you can plug it into a USB port on your TV though you lose the ability to have the Chromecast turn your TV on by doing this.

The Gen 3 Chromecast still only supports streams up to 1080p resolution, so for all intents and purposes the new model is the same as the Gen 2 Chromecast – though no Yellow or Red colour options are available, only Charcoal. The new Chromecast is simply in a prettier, more ‘Made by Google’ friendly case.

If you want to add one to your TV (or collection in my case) you can order one now from the Google Store for $59 or you’ll be able to find it soon at retailers across Australia including JB HiFi, Harvey Norman, Vodafone, The Good Guys, Officeworks, David Jones, Big W, Bing Lee, Retravision and Betta Electrical.

You want 4K? Chromecast Ultra has that. Still no bluetooth though.
