ZTE to show off its own Android TV streaming box at Broadband World Forum 2016 in London

It would seem that Xiaomi might have some competition against their Mi Box with ZTE set to announce and show off their own Android TV media streaming box weirdly called the ZXV10 B860H TV box at Broadband World Forum 2016 in London. What a name…for the sake of simplicity let’s just call it the ZTE Box.

According to CNX-software.com, the ZTE Box will run Android TV on a quad core Amlogic processor which could only be Amlogic S905X processor, the very same processor as in the Xiaomi box.

We are also lucky enough to know what specs the ZTE Box has under its hood. Full list of specs include:

• SoC – Amlogic S905X (-H?) quad core ARM Cortex-A53 @ up to 1.5 GHz with penta-core Mali-450MP GPU @ 750 MHz
• System Memory – 2GB RAM
• Storage – 8GB flash
• Video Output – HDMI 2.0a up to 4K @ 60 Hz with HDCP 2.2, CEC, HDR10 and HLG HDR
• Video Codecs – VP9 Profile-2 & H.265 MP-10 up to 4K @ 60 fps, H.264 AVC up to 4K @ 30 fps, H.264 MVC up to 1080p60
• Connectivity – 10/100M Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi 2×2, and Bluetooth 4.1

The ZTE Box runs Google’s Android TV OS (obviously), but is also said to be “fully integrated with ZTE’s Smart Home Services such as Multi-Screen, HD Video Call, Family Album, Home IoT Network and Voice Assistant”.

During CES, Jason saw and tried out a ZTE Media Android streaming device during the event back in January and looking at it, it does look a bit different to the ZXV10 B860H TV box pictured in the header of this post and the CES version did have support for 4K streaming/viewing, something which wasn’t confirmed in the specs above. However we will check with ZTE about this as well.

There has been no pricing leaked at this stage, however with the Broadband World Forum 2016 happening overnight in London, we may get pricing soon. Rumours have the price somewhere around the same price as the Xiaomi Mi Box, but we will be reaching out to ZTE here locally for more information and to confirm whether or not the ZTE Box will make its way down under.
