If you’re in the market for an affordable tablet, Dick Smith might be the place to look – at least until 6pm Friday – as the Acer Iconia A1-810, an 8-inch Android tablet, is on sale for 24 hours for $199.

Dick Smith is also offering 1 year of accidental damage insurance for free as part of the deal.

The Iconia A1 isn’t the best specced tablet out there, but it’s running a recent version of Android. We haven’t had the device in for review, but if you’re after a simple tablet you could do a lot worse.

The specs:

  • 768 x 1024, 7.9 inch screen (~162 ppi pixel density)
  • 4:3 Color TFT-LCD with LED Backlight with IPS Technology
  • Quad Core 1.2 GHz CPU
  • 1 GB RAM

  • 5 MP rear facing camera with auto-focus, VGA front facing
  • Android 4.2

Apparently MSY is having a little sale with this tablet where you pay $178 and you get $29 cash back from Acer.

8″ 4:3 Screen is kinda perfect.. and the CPU is pretty decent… but then: 768 x 1024.

Oh well.. Good try Acer. For a little bit more I think I’ll get the new nexus 7.
