Android Easter Eggs
Google employees Natalie Hammel and Lorraine Yurshansky started using their ‘20% time’ to create a series of behind the scenes videos at Google last year. Since then we’ve been treated to some pretty great Android insights, with the launch of Android 6.0 today, Nat & Lo have looked at the easter eggs that Google has been putting into Android since Android 2.3.

To start with, to load the Easter Egg in Android, go to SettingS > About Device > Tap on the Android Version continuously and you’ll get to the next step. Keep tapping and in later versions you’ve been able to access a neat game or interactive area.

It all started back when a friend of Android Framework Engineer, Dianne Hackborn included what’s come to be known as ‘Zombie Gingerbread Man’ into Android 2.3. Google engineer, Dan Sandler then took over for Honeycomb with the familiar honeybee with the word “REZZZZZZ” underneath and since then, one of the first things most Android nerds have done with a new version of Android is head straight to settings.

The complete list of Android Easter Eggs so far:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread – A zombie painting
  • Android 3.0 Honeycomb – A honeybee with a word “REZZZZZZZ…” underneath.
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – Nyan Cat with a so-called ‘Nyandroid’ instead of a cat.
  • Android 4.1 – 4.3 Jelly Bean – Red Jelly Bean – floating jellybeans you can push around.
  • Android 4.4 KitKat – A spinning K, then Android logo, then a bunch of tiles with Android Dessert (some never used) logos.
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop – ‘Flappy Bird’ clone with Lollipops for columns.

And finally, the newest one is an updated version of the flappy bird clone game with Marshmallow columns:
