We are literally on the eve of what could be Google’s biggest hardware announcement ever, and could possibly be the beginning of an entirely new chapter in the story of Google and Alphabet. On that eve, we have gotten what might be the last leak of the first Made By Google season, the pricing of the Google Daydream VR headset.
According to the rumours, the VR headset could sell for $79 USD, which is close to $100 AUD before any taxes or local costs. Considering that the Gear VR 2 sells for closer to $160 AUD, the Daydream viewer should come in at a lower pricepoint and be more affordable.
What’s unclear at this stage is if the Daydream controller comes included at that price. Google made a big deal about the Daydream controller at IO 2016 being an integral part of the experience, so not bundling it in order to achieve what appears to be a lower price point would seem a little disingenuous. As an open standard, it is possible that Google’s headset will be compatible with other Daydream ready devices as they come to market, this also gives Google’s headset a leg up over the competition.
With the entire Ausdroid Crew either getting up early or being live on site in San Fransisco to cover the event, we will be bringing you all of the highlights and every detail we can. if you want to watch live you can get all of the details here.
Is the Nexus 6P DayDream compatible does anyone know?
