Samsung Australia has today announced that they are extending their recall of the Galaxy Note7 in Australia to include all Galaxy Note 7 handsets including those that were provided as replacements under their previous replacement program.

Local carriers in Australia began halting sales and replacement of devices on Monday, before Samsung issued a statement saying they had halted production of the Galaxy Note 7 permanently.

To date there have been no instances of replacement Galaxy Note7 handsets catching on fire here in Australia, though several, including one in New Zealand have occurred around the world prompting the recall of the handset.

Samsung has advised that anyone who purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note7 in Australia, including those purchased before September 5th, or those received as a replacement device, should back up any data they have on the device, before performing a factory reset, powering down their device and returning it to the original place of purchase.

Samsung is offering customers affected by the recall the option to exchange the handset for a Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, or if they choose a full refund. Samsung is working with carriers as well as retailers selling the Galaxy Note7. We strongly advise working with your carrier to work out your options from here.

The pre-emptory move of a proactive and voluntary recall of all Galaxy Note7 handsets, is one that reflects Samsung’s commitment to the safety of their users. Richard Fink, Vice President IT & Mobile, Samsung Electronics told Ausdroid

The safety of our customers is our first priority, which is why we are taking this further step and extending the current recall to all Galaxy Note7 devices, including replacement Galaxy Note7 devices. We know our Galaxy Note customers are among our most loyal customers and we sincerely apologise to them.

Anyone with a Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone should visit the place of purchase of their device or feel free to call the Samsung Customer Service line on 1300 362 603 or visit their website samsung.com/au/galaxynote7-notice/.

I read somewhere (I think on the Samsung recall info page) that if you’ve bought accessories for the note 7 that Samsung will reimburse you.
Any info from Samsung on whether this is just Samsung branded accessories or any accessories (Ie cases screen protectors etc) Dan?
