We’ve seen plenty of Arlo equipment over the last couple of years. Their most recent additions, the Arlo Pro 3 floodlight camera and Arlo Pro 3 camera are impressive kits. The previously announced Arlo video doorbell has finally joined those devices on Australian shores.
The specs of the video doorbell hit all of the marks you’d expect in the current market. HD video stream, 180-degree field of vision vertical and horizontal which allows you to zoom and the ability to pre-record messages for visitors. The unit is of course weatherproof which makes sense since it’s going to be outdoors all the time.
Where the Arlo video doorbell differs from other models you’ll find is the fact it will plug into an existing hardwired doorbell feed. The requirements are a wired doorbell and chime with a voltage between 16V AC and 24V AC, and a 10VA transformer.
We’re now seeing pre-orders available through JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman with stock expected to land in the coming weeks.
Agree about Arlo going to the dogs. I purposely bought into Arlo ecosystem as I don’t want to have a subscription, I’d buy their new cameras in an instant but now all future cameras must come with subscription or they’re gimped. I’ll hold on to my existing for now whilst I shop around to find what I need.

It is a well-made product in direct competition with the Ring video doorbell (that has too many security issues). BUT it requires a 16V 10VA AC transformer and a 16V AC ding/dong bell. The problem is that (according to my electrician) the majority of Australian ‘builder-installed’ bells are 8V/1A DC – not compatible. He has quoted about $100 for a transformer and bell (plus freight $70 airfreight from the US) and $150+GST to install. Kind of puts a dampener on it. Any readers have any ideas?
