realme has promised to and has been making a big push into Australia this year. Following on from the release of their mid-range flagship, the X3 Superzoom this morning, the company had also announced that they will be bringing their affordable smartwatch to Australia.

First off, the realme Watch does not run WearOS, but Samsung’s success with its smartwatches shows that this is not essential, and in some cases preferable.

The realme Watch is designed to be an attractive, affordable smartwatch which offers great value for money. It sports a 1.4-inch curved LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, offering a PPI of 323 and coated in Gorilla Glass 3.

The display is a square display and the similarities to the Apple Watch cannot be denied but let’s face it, it is the biggest selling smartwatch so why wouldn’t they design something similar (I still maintain though that Pebble and Fitbit did that shape first).

The smartwatch sports a real-time heart rate monitor along with a blood-oxygen level monitor (SpO2) and support for smart notifications. It supports call rejections, app notifications (from supported apps), weather forecasts, music control and more. It has all the usual health modes including “idle alert”, drinking reminders, step counting and 14 sports modes. For those sweaty sports types it has an IP68 waterproof rating.

The watch connects to your phone using the realme Link app which is where you can change the watch face to one of the pre-installed apps or download more from their store. The watch can also be used as a remote control for the camera app on your phone allowing you to capture a photo with the tap of a button on the watch.

The 160mAh battery offers a full seven days of battery life with the 24/7 hear rate sensor on and nine days with it off. Put the watch into power saving mode and the battery will last a whopping 20 days. With Bluetooth 5.0 you can be sure it will remain connected to your smartphone consistently and at a decent distance.

The watch itself comes in black but offers one-button, easily detachable coloured straps with straps available in black, red, green and blue. The watch will go on sale this Thursday 2nd July for just $169 from realme e-store, Australia Post, mobileciti, 5GWORLD, Amazon, Kogan, eBay and Catch.com.

    Good to see some of these Chinese smart watches becoming officially available in Australia.

    AS someone who still has their pebble watch just holding on (the battery only lasts 3 days now) I will sooner or later need another smart watch and agree that they had this shape long before the iWatch.
