Nexus 4 - Box
The Nexus 4 has just received an update to Android 4.3 – Build JWR66V – and it seems as though there is another update about to hit devices.

US Carrier, T-Mobile, has updated their support page advising that as of 20th of August – yesterday – the Nexus 4 should receive an update to Build JWR66Y. The only description for what’s actually in the update is – Improvements : Security.

While the Nexus 7 (2013) is currently on Android 4.3 but Build JSS15J – it’s interesting to see actual fragmentation in version numbers in the Nexus line – this will make three distinct builds. It would be more beneficial to Google to perhaps push out an update encompassing all the updates on all devices and maintain version parity amongst their devices.

It’s pertinent to remember that this is a US site and it’s unclear at this stage if the update will be distributed world wide. Nexus 4 owners, take this as a heads-up that there is possibly an update on the way for your device.

hey guys. Hey Dan. As of 10.30 this morning, I got the notification that this said update is ready for my phone, a Nexus 4. It does say its security related, and also mentions Google Keep which is already on my phone. I am on Vodaphone Pre Paid. I will install it as soon as I have enough charge.

As far as having version parity among all the different devices – I don’t think that is relevant. They are different hardware from different manufacturers. The odds are pretty good that the builds are going to be slightly different, in a similar fashion to having a different ROM per device. For all we know, the security update for the Nexus4 could be an issue with a hardware driver – and that could account for the incremental changes in one build over another…

It’s not important in the grand scheme of things, but does add fuel to the anti-Android ‘fragmentation’ fire if even the Google Nexus line can’t maintain a single version.

Wish they would fix this MMS outbox bug. So annoying!

Sean Royce

Wish they’d fix the MMS compression problem. The quality of MMS is compressed so much it makes the pictures look unsightly.

at least your mms messages are sending

Maybe it’s an issue with your network carrier and not the phone?

Negative. Called Google support and the only way to fix it is to do a complete wipe. 🙁

I have MMS that sit for days on end without sending. Seems to be an Optus thing rather than an Android thing, also happens to my wife, even in areas of full HSPA signal Tried on Telstra and they sent almost instantly.

Kogan doesn’t have data anymore, and won’t have calls either in the next few days. Maybe your new carrier will be the fix that you are looking for.

Yeah Optus do seem to have problems with their mms. I am also with optus and it’s a major problem.
