Sony may not be the biggest name in mobile, but they’re quietly pushing ahead with updating a swathe of their handsets to Android Pie with the Xperia XZ Premium and XZ1 phones the latest.

It’s only reached a number of handsets to date, but is expected to be rolled out more broadly in the coming days. According to Xperia Blog, the update includes the October 1st security patch and moves the build number to 47.2.A.0.306.

According to Sony, the update was supposed to begin last month on October 26th, which was ahead of schedule, but it appears that unforseen circumstances caused some delays.

The update to Pie is rumoured to be bringing some hefty updates to the camera according to XperiaBlog who say it will include: ‘Sonyโ€™s new camera interface, Full HD 960fps slow-motion video support and HDR video image enhancement (X-Reality with HDR converter). Selfie camera display flash was also rumoured to be supported’.

At this stage there’s no listing of the update for the Xperia XZ Premium (Sony never brought the XZ1 to Australia) in testing across the three carriers here in Australia, but those are a little behind so we may see something in their schedules this week. If you have an Xperia XZ Premium or XZ1
