Although this is currently just rumour, I’ve been told this by multiple sources & from some of you guys. But it seems plausible.

What I was told is that the Galaxy S will be available from Optus from July 1st as a single month exclusive, with other carriers to grab it as soon as the exclusivity deal is over.

Those carriers will be Vodafone & Three, I’ve heard nothing from Telstra about it yet.

Update: I’ve just been informed by a trustworthy source that this is indeed correct. 2 weeks to go Ladies & Gentlemen.

Thanks for the nice article, I’m eagerly awaiting my Samsung Captivate from T-Mobile as soon as they formally confirm that they’re carrying it. I was in my nearby shop today and had a hold of their own dummy unit. It looks as well as feels much better than I thought. This is actually going to be the phone to have. Never mind the iPhone 4g, the Galaxy S is where it’s at. As for me, I’m upgrading from a Samsung Pixon after an 18 month contract and am happy to have finally settled on the Galaxy S. The decision process… Read more »

Im with ya Harvs, damn that looks heaps better, kinda Blackberry Storm-ish tho, but a damn site better then the one coming to Aus

EthanBezz

i just saw the Samsung Captivate. its a galaxy s, but better looking and for America…now im sad again 🙁

Lucas

I’m with ya Harvs, this phone doesn’t do anything for me on the outside but on the inside it looks like it really sings. Buzz – you getting a demo for a review?

EthanBezz

you seem really busy with the site Buzz, so just to make it easier on you…ill review it for you if you like….no charge 😛

EthanBezz

I was unsure about this phone. just read engadget preview of it and im sold. it looks amazing and that screen…yum

ace

y said so?

nobodyatwp

I would possibly buy it if it wasn’t made by samsung.. the most evil company in the world.

Jake

I’m pretty sure Apple currently take up that position.

ace

nope..
anyway, optus told me they will release this phone at end of this month..price will be slightly cheaper than iphone/x10
optus just held a training session for galaxy s yesterday

james

what is the price… of the x10 on optus??

EthanBezz

the x10 is on the $79 cap
but do they mean cheaper to buy outright?

mobuksh

Has anyone heard anything about the Samsung Galaxy S PRO – the one with the LED flash and the slide out keyboard :))))))

Any rumours about this coming to Australia?

Lucas

I think it looks boring as, nothing exciting in the way this handset looks, maybe it will perform better than it looks.

My issue with this phone? It’s trying to be an iPhone. Why have a form factor that looks the same as the iPhone 3? Why have an Android skin that makes it look like an iPhone? Really, it makes great specs look like a wannabe.

Terrible decisions from Samsung.

Not saying I wouldn’t get one at the right pricepoint and then customise it to be as little like an iPhone as possible, I just don’t get the trying to be the same as the market leader thing rather than being different.

Eliza

Just saw it on the mobicity website as in stock already, looks nice; I want one – http://www.mobicity.com.au/samsung-i9000-galaxy-s.html

EthanBezz

Simon thats the only reason i still want a nexus one to come out here. and with froyo i really dont think they need the skins anymore. android looks great.
but good on optus for bringing out all these phones. bit high in the price plans but hey they are out to make money.

Simon

I’m curious about the hummingbird CPU! 30% less power consumption when compared to snapdragon.
as for optus, i’m leaving them as soon as my contract finishes. i left 3, went on 2 years contract just for the HTC Dream, and Optus gave us hell when it came to customer service and limiting android capabilities. bye bye optus.

ace

as usual $79 plan

james

anyone hazard a guess at the pricepoint this will come in at on optus? Optus do seem to put handsets on quite high plans…

Simon

I don’t know!!! i mean i know this will be the best android phone on the market when it comes out (best GPU, and AMOLED screen) but i love stock UI (vanilla), i’m not a fan of any OEM custom UI. and the XDA community seems to produce hacks for HTC mostly and not samsung, so not sure if u can root the phone.

I would love to know wat u guys think about all this.

can you trust Samsung with updates and all?

Jake

Also, Samsung released the source code for the drivers for the Galaxy S to the public on their open source website. It shouldn’t take long for custom ROMs to emerge.

George

Nice, I will lay my xperia to rest after this baby comes out.

ace

also heard that Telstra will get it too but maybe later…
