Just in from Sony Ericsson – from 8th June, the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY will be available with Optus and Telstra. We attended the launch party not long ago, and it seems the launch is now imminent.

Xperia™ PLAY delivers a world’s first – a powerful and cool smartphone, access to over 200,000 apps via the latest version of Google’s Android platform (Gingerbread, version 2.3) with the added bonus of a slide-out PlayStation certified game control.  Xperia™ PLAY comes with six games pre-installed; Star Battalion (Gameloft), FIFA 10, Madden NFL 11 and SIMS 3 (EA Games), Bruce Lee (Digital Legends) and Crash Bandicoot (Sony Computer Entertainment).

In addition, more than 60 games will be available for download at the time of launch in Australia, including top franchises Assassin’s Creed™ – Altaïr’s Chronicles, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, Worms, Need for Speed, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction™ and Guitar Hero.

Does this sound appetising to you? Check out our review of the Xperia Play, and let us know whether you’ll be getting one.

we’ve had them at Telechoice Blacktown since yesterday, got 5 units initially, all gone in a day, hopefully another shipment of these soon!

also just received dummies for the LG Optimus Black today, so the stock should be coming to us in the next week or so.

Benno

Optus have them already, I know my store has one left if you’re in brisbane (garden city), We’ve been selling them since the 1st of june.

Deltronzero

Damn! If only Adelaide wasn’t a damn back water town, we might have had them by now 😛

Deltronzero

You can get them from Telstra in store today, but there plans are so rubbish I don’t know why you would bother.

Hey.. could I get you do to me a favour…
Could you keep me informed with how you go getting the Xperia Play?I’d be interested to know when it arrives for you, and then I’ll try my local stores.

Anonymous

Oh man. Just wanted to add. Telstra’s outright price for the Play is $960.
That’s $201 more than Optus.
Think I’ll wait for Optus..

Benno

Stupid predictive text… Loving it*

Benno

My store has limited stock, I got onefor myself on Tuesday, been living it.

Minimiggs

We at Strathfield, an Optus dealer, received the galaxy S II, Sony Ericsson Play, and Arc today.

Deltronzero

Doesn’t help me.  Strathfield don’t exist in SA 🙁

Minimiggs

If we have them, then all Optus dealers should have them. As we all order from the same warehouse.

Deltronzero

Apparently not.  I went to a few more optus stores and optus agents and none had them in stock.  Some said next week, some said end of the month.

Anonymous

Yes, I’ve had the same experience with my Optus store. They’re saying they’re expecting the Play by the end of the month.

I might check again after the 8th.. and then, if still no word from them – perhaps I’ll get it somewhere online.

Deltronzero

This confirms what I was told yesterday, but it looks like stores will have limited supplies initially.

Anonymous

True.

I don’t suppose you could go in.. pay and then reserve one. I think i’m dreaming here, as it is a telco we’re talking about.
Now I’ll be interested to drop by my Optus store and see if they know anything about the Xperia Play.

Deltronzero

My local store were more than happy to hold one for me when they came in.  All i had to do was leave my name and number.

Anonymous

Cheers. I’ll check it out this evening.
Thanks for your help.

Anonymous

Well, my Optus store didn’t know anything about it. It’s probably because I live in the proverbial sticks. Neither did Telstra, actually.

So I’ll wait till this time next week and see what they say.
