It’s been a long time coming for the Pyramid/Sensation hasn’t it? Here’s the timeline of how this all unfolded:
- March 16 – Spotted on Telstra’s Internal System
- March 17 – We hear HTC will do a revamp with Dual-Core mid-year
- May 18 – We hear the Sensation, Wildfire S and Desire S will come to Telstra (they all did, by the way)
- June 24 – We spot the HTC Sensation on Telstra’s Expressions of Interest page before it disappears
- June 27 – Telstra begin teasing an announcement for the Sensation
- June 29 – We’re leaked the release date and pricing of the Sensation
- July 10 – The build.prop for the Sensation on Telstra is leaked confirming it will support HD Voice
- July 12 – The HTC Sensation from Telstra goes on sale
That last dot point sums up this post. The HTC Sensation is now available from all your favourite Telstra stores for $0 on the $79 Freedom Connect Plan (which is the price we reported) and outright — at least online — for $792, which is far more than the $699 that MobiCity is offering for the NextG specific HTC Sensation and has none of the Telstra bloatware. For those who can remember the launch of the HTC Desire on Telstra, it was on sale outright for $779, so for $13 more and over a year later you can get a massive boost in specs ;).
We were a fan of the HTC Sensation when we reviewed it, though we don’t feel it’s for the tech-savvy user instead the whole Ausdroid Team (except Matty) recommends the Galaxy S II. Either way, head into your local Telstra store to check it out for yourself.
I have to disagree mate. I know you guys have to support the site, its a great site not taking anything away from that. Its just this blatant advertising is annoying. Are the ads placed on the website not enough.
Maybe a subscription model I would gladly contribute so we don’t have to put up with these “plugs” I thought we were done after the “buy from abroad” post. Clearly not

ok ive now gone and looked at both the sensation and sgII as a current htc (desire) user i will be staying with htc, when i find a suitably priced one (new/secondhand) the samsung is plasticy and horrible to hold, although i have a sam tab, i find it feels wrong to use, where are the htc has the buttons in the right place etc the sensation has missing actual buttons and centre ‘optical wheel’ but still handles much better than the plain sgII buttons. one major point that is missed in all reviews is the other ‘user interface’ with PC… Read more »
The next g Sensation on mobicity is not free of bloatware. It is Bell branded with Bell bloatware. And I’m assuming is missing a few things that the Telstra version has, for example HD voice.

What the hell? This is what the SGS2 should have been priced at. Telstra are barely subsidising the Samsung at all, the prices are not that different, yet there is $15/month difference between the SGS2 and the HTC.
That settles it, I’m going with optus out of spite.
If something goes wrong, the ease of taking it into a Telstra shop is much preferred to the hassle of returning a device to an online retailer. Telstra will give you a dummy phone and even fix your phone in a few hours, depending on the store you go to and the problem.
Telstra bloatware is always annoying though (can flash this off eventually hopefully)
HTC Sensation is the pick of the bunch for me at the moment, great build quality and fantastic performance. Unfortunately HTC won’t be unlocking the bootloader until August/September.. and by that time the next Nexus is likely to be announced. I’ll be holding onto my unlocked AT&T Atrix for the time being
think i would rather buy it from telstra than mobicity, been burnt a few times from them and $70-80 difference (taking out the shipping too) is better than the hassle of dealing with them by far!

if i’m not connect to the NextG network, there’s no point to me to buy the NextG compatible version.
That’s true, but it makes no sense for me to post a lower price of a non-compatible device in a Telstra related article.
