With the announcement today that Google has released Ice Cream Sandwich source code to the AOSP, companies are now able to evaluate the code and decide which devices in their line up will receive the upgrade. First company off the mark appears to be Sony Ericsson who has just updated their blog to advise that all their 2011 Xperia devices will receive an update to Ice Cream Sandwich. With regards to timing etc, they advised :

We are working on merging our current Xperia™ experience with the new features in Android 4.0. More detailed information regarding this upgrade, timing and global availability will be communicated in due course here on the blog.

The 2011 Xperia line up they refer to includes : Xperia Arc & Arc S, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo & Neo V, Xperia Mini & Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active, Xperia Ray and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.

So all that stands between owners of one of these devices and Ice Cream Sandwich is time and whatever testing your carrier decides to do to the update. Sony Ericsson are really trying to prove that they`re on top of these upgrades which is a huge win for customers.

Going by the number of updates they have put out already this year for the ’11 range, I see the ICS being not much different.  And dont forget, mediascape is gone, and timescape is simply an app now. No need for it to be fully written into the… Read more »
