Today Motorola Australia has announced the launch of the Motorola Defy Mini, the phone will be available on Optus pre-paid for an RRP of $199 which includes $30 of credit it will be available today from Dick Smith and Optus retailers and from Kmart and Target on Monday 22nd of May. The phone which at $199 is aimed at the entry level market is certainly an ideal one for someone who is after a smart phone which can take some punishment as it is Dust-proof, Water-Resistant and Scratch-Resistant.

Specs :

  • 3.2-inch 320 x 480 Screen with Corning® Gorilla® Glass
  • 600MHz CPU with 512 MB RAM
  • 512 MB ROM with MicroSD Card Slot
  • 3 Megapixel Camera with LED flash + VGA Front Facing Camera
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA + Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP
  • 1650mAh battery

Fairly low end specs but not a bad deal for $199 with $30 credit. I myself am on Optus Pre-Paid and usually have no issues with coverage but that will obviously vary on your location so check out the Optus Coverage Map. If this phone was any lower in price I’d consider grabbing one just to subject it to a torture test just to see exactly what punishment it can take . Any tradies out there looking for a cheap tough phone?

The Telstra prepaid Defy+ is available at around $250-275 so for the spec boost (1GHz CPU, 480×854 resolution over 320×480 slightly larger battery, 2GB storage over 512MB) it’s worth the extra.

Might as well spend an extra $60 and get the HTC One V from Kogan.
