Owners of the Motorola XOOM can look forward to (or dread) next week when Motorola Australia announce the plans for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. The update has been delayed a few times now, and Motorola are making a name for themselves as being the slowest manufacturer to update their devices — as shown by their latest upgrade guide that pushes some updates back to Q3. Although it’s too soon to see any influence from Google, but surely future devices will have quicker update turnaround times that current devices. We’ll keep you updated with next weeks news.

ICS4

Have had ICS on my xoom for a few months now. thought it was out long ago

The US have, in a lot of other places on the other hand, Motorola is dragging their feet with ridiculous “optimisation for the local market” and “different standards of local testing”.

Can someone please tell me why the US ICS ROM for the WiFi Only (MZ604) cannot be installed on an Australian Xoom ? The hardware is the same. There are no 3G complications. So why is it that US users have ICS already and we don’t. I just don’t understand and would be glad for some information. Thanks.

I felt the same way when i bought my xoom a few months ago. Then i found this tutorial
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/non-u-s-xoom-general-discussion/7918-updating-3-2-3-0-1-non-us-user.html
And now my xoom is running ics 4.0.4

Wow!! Thanks Lobo. I will read through that in detail before deciding whether to move across or “chicken” out and wait for Motorola. Once question, though. Did you “upgrade” to v3.0.1US and then progressively upgraded to 4.0.4 or did you just download the ICS ROM and used the steps in the article to flash the 4.0.4 ? Hear from you. And thanks again.

Basically I installed the u.s. rom which was 3.1. Then after like half an hour or so i got the update to 4.0.1 ota. Got the 4.0.4. update recently. It will update the xoom step by step. From 3.1 to 3.2 to 4.0.1.

At our work we have a rule of thumb about the word ‘surely’…

Slowest? I’m not so sure… I did an update check today on my SGT 10.1 3G… and was excited to see an update!

Was it the long awaited ICS update you ask?!

No… It was a 3.1 -> 3.2 update. WTF Samsung!?!

“we’re looking to provide some specific information early next week”, so in Motorola terms, we may or may not have a clear indication within the next 6 months.
