This time next week, when pre-orders are in the hands of users and even stores should have them on shelves, the saga of actually getting your hands on a Nexus 7 will be forgotten. Until then there are still people out there who pre-ordered whilst the Google IO Keynote was in progress and still have not received a shipping notifiacation. Google has finally released an update on the shipping process citing ‘incredible demand’ for some delays in shipping. The full statement reads :

An update on Nexus 7 pre-order shipping status
We’ve had incredible demand for our new Nexus 7 tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. When your device ships you will receive a notification from Google Play with a shipping tracking number. We will have all orders placed through July 13 processed and shipped soon. Orders placed after July 13 will ship according to the quoted timeframe when you purchased and we will update you with a tracking number when we’ve shipped. Thanks for your patience.

They then go on to address Australia specifically :

In Australia:
All Nexus 7 8GB and Nexus 7 16GB orders will be fulfilled by the end of day on July 19 (AEST) and will arrive in 3-5 days.

Well it’s no comfort to customers who placed orders early and seen others receive shipping notifications who ordered some days after them but as I said this time next week this will all just be a bad memory.

Update :
Pretty much everyone still waiting for a pre-order at this stage just received an email from Google Play :

Hello,

We wanted to send you an update on your Nexus 7 pre-order. We’ve had incredible demand for the new tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. Your tablet will ship by July 19.

If you’d like more detailed information on device shipments, please reference our online Help Center at http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2667319.

Thanks for your patience. Your Nexus 7 will be on its way soon.

The Google Play Team

© 2012 Google Inc. 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043

You have received this mandatory email service announcement to update you on your Nexus 7 product pre-order.

We’ve also been advised (Thanks Tia) that if you call Google Support and ask about your supposed 2 Day shipping you’ll be advised that this is actually their standard flat rate shipping charge, My response to that (Minus expletives) is ‘Why mention 2 Day shipping in the first place?’.

just got a tracking number from EB Games 🙂

Zoran Petkovic

Ordered the 16GB on the 2nd of July and received it this morning. So, anyone still waiting it shouldn’t be too long now. Haven’t had a chance to play with it much but I have a suspicion that I’m going to enjoy this thing 😉 http://goo.gl/Dk0Gx

Got my Nexus 7 today. Very excited!

However I have found an inconstancy with voice search with relation to search cards. For example I have seen many video reviews, when let say someone would say “how tall is Barak Ohbama” and voice action will present the user with a search card/image and height result. My nexus 7 will return the result(height) but I don’t get the actual search cards. I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem (maybe a limitation in Australaia) or is there someting wrong with my device or setup?

Thanks in advance.

This reminds me so much of my preorder from the Apple Store last year of the iPhone 4S – they screwed it up so badly that people were able to stroll into Telstra Stores and pick one up on launch day while the Apple faithful who preordered had to wait an extra couple of days… My point is that Apple are in the business of hardware sales, are used to big-bang launches and have the most profitable retail stores in the world. Google are a web services company mainly and may well have been taken completely by surprise at the… Read more »

I just now got an email with my tracking number, can’t wait!

Google Play are still quoting 3 to 5 days for new orders. Does this mean you order now and receive at the same time or sooner than the old orders? All over by next week? – excuse my skepticism. The “INCREDIBLE demand” excuse means they likely mustn’t process and reserve items in-stock as orders come in. The distributor doesn’t respond their customer’s progress queries. The reality seems that the Singapore distributor is not up to the job. Not to a standard one would expect of Google as a premier provider. Google should at least give a response to concerned customers… Read more »

Unless you order an 8GB one, which apparently ships immediately

Good God! Talk about throwing a tantrum. Seriously, what are you “concerned” about? That you’ll receive the device a day or two after someone else? Stop acting like a spoiled brat and relax. I’m all for complaining if the need arises, but everything seems to be within te time frame Google announced. So really, this outburst is quite unnecessary. But hey, we can’t all be sensible 🙂

Ah – sorry guys, I guess I did over-react. I panicked because my old ZTE V9 was _really_ frustratingly slow. Google responded as promised, and thanks for being such a great site.

Daniel Tyson

I did just receive my shipping notification email, whilst the tracking number is not yet active, this is definitely movement!

Dim

Definite movement at station

Sunil J

Anyone watched the ridiculously unsuccessful unboxing videos? lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32DD4DF7Qpo

Daniel Tyson

Yeah, looks like it’s packaged pretty well, at least you can guarantee that it’ll be safe on arrival 🙂

Dim

I just got an email from the Google Play Team saying mine will ship by July 19…should then have it early next week. BONUS!

Gary Oak

I just got the email too. It’s about time.

Ben

I ordered during the announcement as well and I received a “Shipment Notification” a few days ago. My FedEx status currently says “On FedEx vehicle for delivery” – can’t wait! 🙂 Not bad service at all I reckon.

Sunil J

Same Ben… I’ve hit Refresh on the FedEx Screen about a million times. Looking forward to my first nexus experience.

antzpantz

It’s in my area! Looks like I’ll be getting it at lunch time!!!

antzpantz

It’s at my other office! Can’t wait for lunch time!

Jacob Wood

Lucky!!!!

John Gabriel

Will be a bad memory indeed, but will still prevent me pre-ordering again. The lack of communication has been the most annoying aspect.

Zoran Petkovic

You’ll pre-order again 😉 You know why? Because you’ll be excited by the next best thing that you wouldn’t be able to help yourself lol.

Jason

Really bad service. I ordered during the announcment, and there was no direct email informing of the delay.
Why are Australian deliveries taking 3-5 days when US orders are being upgraded to overnight shipping??

Daniel Tyson

I’m one of those who pre-ordered during the Key Note and seen many people who placed orders after me receive shipping notifications(Still haven’t received it yet), I know there isn’t much they can do but more communication would have been nice

Jason

I’m in the same situation. Ordered during the keynote, but still yet to receive any shipping notification.
The handling has been horrible. They should learn from most successful online ordering companies and provide updates so their customers aren’t left wondering.
It would also be good if they treated other countries in the same way that they have treated the US customers, and upgraded their shipping speed also.

Zoran Petkovic

Come on mate, stop your whining. What on earth are you wondering about? They’ve announced when they’ll be shipping, if nothing happens after that then enquire/whinge about it. And regarding treatment, it is not entirely in their hands, so they can’t really treat all countries the same. But, according to their announcement: http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2667319 the shipment for most countries is fairly close, so still no reason to complain.

+1, I received my purchase order at 11:41 PDT on the 27th for a 16Gb version – no news as yet. My card shows a pending transaction dated yesterday – which means to me that at least Google knows about my order. I figure it will get here when it gets here. It’s not like my life depends on it or anything 🙂

Onno Benschop

No sooner had I submitted this my phone alerted me of an incoming email: Hello, We wanted to send you an update on your Nexus 7 pre-order. I’ve received the same email this morning, but not too long ago I received another email stating that my order has been shipped and I was given a tracking number which still doesn’t give any info but does mean that the order will ship very soon.

Hope that helps.

Onno Benschop

Well, the 19th has come and gone, although technically, it’s still the 19th in some parts of the world, and I’ve yet to receive any shipping information.

Onno Benschop

I have just spoken with a Google representative via phone who advises me that there was a problem with packaging and that devices ordered before July 3rd will be shipped tomorrow.

Onno Benschop

I’ll try this post again, since it’s not showing up.

I’ve just spoken with the Google Play team (via phone) who advised me that there were “problems with packaging” for Nexus 7 orders placed before July 3rd. These orders will be fulfilled tomorrow.

Dylan Jones

Australia is pretty far from the US….

Jason

I doubt that they ship them individually from the US… It would show a huge lack of organisation for them to ship from the US.
It’s likely that they shipped them to local warehouses before the global shipping date. Then local couriers would deliver them. Asus would have a good supply chain in Australia, it’s not like they’re a small company.

antzpantz

The Australian shipments seem to be coming from Hong Kong, as per my shipment statement.
