Besides commencing the roll out of Jelly Bean to the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung has announced overnight its roadmap for bringing Android 4.1 to other devices in its catalogue. Unfortunately, not every Samsung device will get an update, but most current devices certainly will.
The full list of devices receiving the update is as follows:
- Galaxy S II
- Galaxy Note
- Galaxy S Advance
- Galaxy S II LTE
- Galaxy Chat
- Galaxy Ace 2
- Galaxy Beam
- Galaxy Ace Plus
- Galaxy Mini 2
- Galaxy S Duos
- Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
- Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
- Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and
- Galaxy Note 10.1
There’s no set timeframe for these devices to receive the update, just that Samsung plans to deliver Jelly Bean to them at some stage. Hopefully it won’t take too long.
What about the Galaxy Tab 7.7 it’s still stuck on the honeycomb and no sight of an update. Really disappointed with Samsung.

Did I miss something? I notice that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus isn’t on that list. My “yakjuxw” Nexus that I purchased from mobicity a couple of weeks ago is still not showing an update, even though the Google version of the phone was updated in July.
Optus won’t release the update for the s2 until about 2022. I just got the 4.0.4 update. What is different?
4.04 crashes less, they have returned the contacts to the dialer app and the browser is updated. Most important is it does not crash like it did before.
What advantage will JB have on a device such as the SII? They really messed up with Touchwiz in the ICS update.
Its hard to believe that they are updating the Tab 7.0 Plus and Tab 2 7.0 but not the Tab 7.7… especially when you compare them by specs…
The 7.7 was a failed launch, the best device they made but due to Apple and their bullshit cases Samsung never pushed the device like they should have. It is no longer available and it looks like no new development either. Off to XDA to see how CM 10 is going on it.
Disappointing. The 7.7 was the first android tablet that wasn’t obsolete at time of release. But then the Nexus 7 came and made it join the rest.
With the Lumia 920 on the horizon, I’m about ready to quit Android. Between HTC and Samsung, I’m sick on investing in devices that are dumped by the wayside 6 months later. The 7.7 WiFi is still stuck on Honeycomb ffs.
Rather than quit the OS, just make sure you just get Nexus devices. I’ve been burnt by a couple of samsung tabs (10.1 & 7.7) not getting updates, and as such I’d never get a Samsung device again. The 7.7 is particularly galling given it was only released this year, and as such Samsung have lost me as a customer for good. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus comes in two “Google” models, and many “Samsung” models, same hardware, mostly the same software with some “carrier” tweaks. No indication on the box which is which (I have one of each.) Bottom line, the “Google” version gets updates from Google, the “Samsung” version gets them from Samsung when and if they’re good and ready. True, if you don’t want to root you need to be careful to get the Google version. Its criminal that Samsung have only just released JB for their Nexus version, when all they have to do is compile the code. I have the Google version, but recently got my wife the Nexus from HK and its the Samsung version, and no update was forthcoming. Everyone is talking about Jelly Bean, but isn’t Key Slice Lime just around the corner / new nexus in oct/nov?
Most people are thinking that there won’t be a new release of Android until next June at Google I/O. If/when the new Nexus is announced, it will be running JB.
Maybe… it just doesn’t seem Google like to release a new phone without new software to show it off with; Historically Google have done 2 big OS announcements each year one at IO and and again with the launch of the nexus.
But I’m just speculating….
From the rumour articles about the HTC Nexus 5 the speculation is that the next nexus/nexii will be launched with 4.1.2, a minor Jelly Bean update.
That makes more sense to me at least than no update at all… Still I expect the minor update will bring some noticeable changes to the table…
