Nexus 7 - hero - press site
We’ve been inundated with requests for information on the Australian launch of the Nexus 7(2013). Asus themselves have referred all enquiries regarding the Nexus 7 to Google, and Google – as usual – has remained silent on the matter.

We’ve received confirmation from both a source within Asus and various Australian Retailers and Asus Re-Sellers, who have been busily checking since the announcement, that stock of the tablet will be available in early September.

While no details on which of the three models – 16/32GB Wifi & 32Gb LTE – will be available at launch, nor any pricing at this stage, but they are uniform in their advice that the Nexus 7 (2013) will be in stores in Early September.

We’ve yet again sought but not received ‘official’ confirmation from Asus, as well as from Google and will update as soon as we have anything further from either company in regards to launch details for the Nexus 7.

With the US launch well under way, going live on Friday – Saturday morning our time – both online and at retailers, there seems to be already stock supply issues with many retail outlets reporting no stock availability and giving no eta’s for resupply at this time. It would appear that Google are hoping to avoid the stock shortage issues that occurred last year in Australia where stock was selling out almost immediately at most locations.

Bought a 16Gb one (only model in stock) in Los Angeles last Sunday just before coming home. Very pleased so far. Impressive screen resolution. It will be worth the wait in Australia.

Martin Leonard

Available from Mobicity ($390 for 16Gb) and Kogan ($339 for 16Gb). Both say they are in stock. Can I wait for the Google play version……

Daniel

That is really expensive. I was looking forward to the 229 price tag for the 16GB model. Last years model was $100 cheaper then. That sucks.

Considering ordering from bhphotovideo but as they operate on a first come, first basis concerned if I am customer 101 and they only have a 100 units am better off waiting till officially releases in Australia. Also the sites warranty policy isn’t quite clear. Geez damn these first world problems.

Alex Hutton

I just ordered from bh. I assume that I can probably get a refund or something if there is a delay so substantial that AUS retailers have stock first

niknaks

thanks….bit the bullet. fingers crossed, will hopefully receive dispatch notification in the wee hours of the morning.

Alex Hutton

http://support.asus.com/Warranty.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Nexus%207%20%282013%29&p=28&s=2 just found this. I think there’s an international warranty on it 🙂

Daniel Tyson

Spoke to B&HPhotoVideo live chat – They claim there isn’t an interenational warranty on the Nexus 7. Could be to push their in-house Warranty upgrade but who knows.

What you’ve found certainly seems to negate what they’ve said.

Alex Hutton

Interesting. on that note, I also just spoke to them regarding delivery time. They told me there’s currently a shipment their way but they have no idea how many devices are in it and when it will be getting there.

nik naks

Geez looks like…. in for a slightly longer wait than expected if they don’t even know when shipment is expected to arrive. Interesting that they don’t even know how many units they have ordered. sounds like a laid back approach to business. I would imagine that good old Aussie has been good for their sales numbers this week

Alex Hutton

I was speaking to a customer service rep so it’s possible this information just isn’t available at the moment. They told me to check back in about a week as they should then have that information (number in order/when my order will be shipped). That means it’s /at least/ a week or so

nik naks

thanks for all the info. the wait continues

Alex Hutton

16gb Expected availability: August 01 2013

I contacted their live chat and got this:
The 32gb does not have an exact date for arrival, but will be arriving within 7-14 days after the 16gb.

So hopefully 32gb in stock by the 15th and in my hands by the 19th

niknaks

Noticed 16GB availability too and so impatient was tempted to swap my order and just get the 16GB unit and use nexus media importer and otg cable to compensate. ended up thinking otherwise though. Hopefully ordering from them does pay-off and that we get units in decent time frame.

niknaks

32gb is now listed as being in stock.

Is the LTE one available Is the US yet? Will it work in Australia on Telstra or Optus?

Daniel Tyson

No, it’s not out in the US as yet. No, it won’t work on any of the Australian carriers 4G networks. The best bet for the LTE model is to wait for either an Australian launch or look at importing the European model which will have the 1800MHz band.

Muttoez

Google’s website lists LTE support as follows:

NA:

4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/13/17

HSPA+ Bands: 1/2/4/5/8

Doesn’t Telstra and Optus use band 3 in most capital cities?

Daniel Tyson

This is the way that Google List it on their internal specs :

North America:
4G LTE: 700/750/850/1700/1900/2100 MHZ (Bands: 1/2/4/5/13/17)
HSPA+: 850/900/1900/2100/AWS(1700/2100) MHz (Bands: 1/2/4/5/8)
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Europe:
4G LTE: 800/850/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 MHz (Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/20)
HSPA+: 850/900/1900/2100/AWS(1700/2100) MHz (Bands: 1/2/4/5/8)
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

As you can see there are two clear models, the Band 3 (1800MHz) you refer to is on the EUROPEAN MODEL.

Back to the same problem, Google is an awesome big tech company. But he is not good at selling some devices like nexus 7 or nexus 4 last year. There always a lot of problem. Google should learn this from Apple.

zeitgeber

There is no way I’m waiting another 1.5 months to get this bad boy, because by the time it gets here it’d be obsolete, so I ordered it from bhphotovideo and will arrive first week of Aug. Thanks for the tip whirlpool.

wali bak

what about warranty? who u ganna send it for rma , asus or google or B&H

TT

same as wali, i want to know the same question. I really want to do the same but how about if it is a defective device like my old Nexus 7. BTW, how much for the shipping?

zeitgeber

Shipping was US$36. I’m assuming if it’s defective, I’d return it back to B&H for $US36 shipping.

derp

Isnt Staples selling them now? Ive seen a few people saying theyve picked one up. Its on sale everywhere else in the US on the Friday.

But here in Aus I think they are just delaying the launch so there is no supply problems which Nexus products seem to attract.

Andrew

That really sucks. Already sold the old tablet 🙁

Brady McKenzie

Slightly Annoying. More than slightly actually. Now comes the game of ringing around all the JB’s to find out who will have it available (when it’s made available to AUS of course) and then trying to secure one. Bring on the pre-orders.
