Sony’s upcoming flagship device — the Xperia Z1 — has had its renders and specs leaked onto the internet for all to see. So let’s get a rundown of these specs that we’ll hopefully see confirmed at Sony’s event tomorrow morning.

So there we have it, the leaked info about the Xperia Z1. It’s impressive on paper, and Sony says the rear camera will be the best camera on any smartphone — maybe we’ll see the Lumia 1020 and iPhone 5 trumped. any word on network carriers? I’m hoping to upgrade to this now that I know Telstra isn’t getting the Xperia Z Ultra.
I hope it addresses the complaints people had the with Xperia Z. I always liked the Z.

Sony generally doesn’t release phones with up to date Android on it. i.e phones being released now should have Android 4.3.
Partners like Sony get early access to the upcoming versions of Android through the Partner Development Kit. It’s basically Gospel that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be announced tonight with Android 4.3 – if Samsung can do it, then so can Sony.

Come on now. 4.3 was only officially released in July. Sony would have been working on this phone and working with carriers to get it approved for months now. Besides the difference between 4.2.2 and 4.3 isn’t like 2.3 to 4.0. It’s a minimal software update that not even Android enthusiasts would know the difference if they used them. Aside from that, Samsung make much, much more money on their phones than Sony do. They probably have much more people working on phones/software, so they could possibly get hoards of engineers putting 4.3 on the Note 3, moreso than Sony… Read more »
The main thing missing from Android 4.2 and below which Android 4.3 brings to the table is BLE support, which we’re about to see a major expansion of accessories which support Android. Having more phones launch without BLE support hamstrings a lot of potential in that area. What you’re saying with regards to not launching officially until July is actually what I was referring to with the PDK which gives Android OEMs access to APIs and code for around 3-4 months prior to the launch of a new version of Android, as it’s as you put it not that big… Read more »
