Nexus 5 for Real

Earlier today the Nexus 5 accidentally appeared in the US Google Play store, then Android Police dug around and found a high resolution copy of the device pictured in Google Play.

Nexus 5 for Real 2

The Nexus 5 is listed as starting at US $349 for what we presume to be the 16GB version. We anticipate the 32GB model to be US $399.

The listing reads:

Nexus 5 – Capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways. Starting at (US) $349.

Here are the high resolution shots of the Nexus 5 – straight from Google themselves – with the top speaker uncovered, a different camera icon, Hangouts instead of messaging, a strange phone/dialer icon and an updated Gmail icon. The time is also the proper 4:40:

What do you think? Still keen on a Nexus 5 at US $349? Let us know in the comments!

It looks to me like Google is getting the online store ready to allow orders/preorders immediately after the announcement!

Take my money already!

Sean

I have a question (puts hand in the air)…will be interesting to see what happens if the background you’ve chose is white, will the back, home and task switcher icons be camouflaged?

geoff fieldew

Perhaps there’ll be a drop shadow or some kind of outline. Good question.

mark0Z

There seems to be a slight shadowing from both top and bottom edges over the wallpaper, much like the option in Nova Launcher.

Darren_Ausdroid

Now Google just need let me buy it already!

niknaks

If Google did this intentionally surely it can be classified as cruel and unusual punishment especially if we still have 10 days to go. Come on just officially announce the damn phone, I got money burning a hole in my pocket. Will be painful…..if it doesn’t love up to the hype.

geoff fieldew

The abstract wallpaper in the shape of a 5 looks good. Same thing they did with the Nexus 7. I wonder what the 10 will look like.

Me!

looks like a crop of the windows 7 logo

mark0Z

One slightly angled straight line and another curved out cropped at the right corner…

My Paint version… 😛

The Nexus family refresh is nearly complete….Up next: Google Nexus 10 (2013) leaks! Can’t wait.

vijay alapati

no, i’m dreaming of nexus 8 🙁

mark0Z

I hear you! An 8″ Nexus would be a perfect ‘goldilocks’ tablet size, especially with thinner bezels.

JeniSkunk

An 8 inch Nexus, with LTE and 64Gb, please.

Duncan_J

Ohh baby. daddy want.

Jezz_X

As much as I’d like one my nexus 4 is running great and will get kitkat anyway so not seeing any real need to upgrade.

Damon Lewis

I get the feeling Google might go “Nexus 5. Buy/Pre-order now” with minimal fuss.

Duncan_J

my wallet broke the monitor.

32 gb at $400USD with the hint of a good camera, some one bring me a new monitor to break.

Harpersneil

Bwah ha ha!!! I hear you, I’m just as keen!

Damon Lewis

I’m throwing money at my screen but nothing is happening.

Dy4me

Put it in the Disk drive

Damon Lewis

Instructions unclear. Stuck d…Actually it’s not important. Send help

Greg

What’s a disk drive?

Mick

Reading a bit much into it, the Nexus 4, 7 and 10 have the time listed as 4:30… This one has it as 4:40… Does that means the next one will have it as 4:50 :-p

Benjamin Booth

Not reading into it too much at all, Google usually puts the Android version in the clock for official press shots. 4:40 for Android 4.4 KitKat, the others are all 4:30 for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Hopefully the next one will have 5:00 or higher in the time.

AXiDER

Want. But a 64gb model would be fantastic.

Duncan_J

if only.

but we can dream

Andrew

$349/$399 would be awesome, it should mean here it’ll be around $449 for the 32GB (+$50 per model). I will most definitely be replacing my N4 with the N5 if that’s the case.

Duncan_J

I dont care what they are charging at this point Im getting this phone.

whispy_snippet

I can see my poor Galaxy Nexus sitting on the table, sweating with anxiety. It knows it’s about to lose its job.

Frankie Chan

Same here – but I plan to rebirth the G-Nex and start playing with custom ROMs again with it once the N5 is settled in as my daily driver. So long as the camera is better than G-nex/N4 and it’s external speaker is louder I will be getting this.

Fred

It’s too expensive.

With Kogan selling the LG G2 32GB for AU$539 a $499 N5 would be overpriced.
