Part of the appeal of the new software on Motorola is the Touchless controls, and Motorola has just pushed out an update which brings some interesting new options to this feature.

The new features are mainly around the talk to action mode, in which users ask ‘what’s up?’ to have their notifications read to them. Although, if you’re not quite wanting that term, you can use the more generic phrase ‘read notifications’ instead. The update also brings additional language support for English, Italian and Spanish to the Touchless App control, with additional languages being looked at for future releases. The upgrade also enhances the app’s ability to detect when you’re done issuing commands.

The Touchless Control app is only available for the following Motorola Devices, only one of which is currently available in Australia – although the Moto X is supposed to launch here soon :

  • Moto X
  • Moto G
  • Droid Ultra
  • Droid Mini
  • Droid Maxx

The Motorola Migrate App, which helps new users migrate from any phone – yes, even from the iPhone – has also been updated, with options to select only the data you wish to migrate. The update will automatically import all your SIM contacts from your old phone and migrate them to your preferred Google account. It also helps manage data on the old phone when it is larger than the memory on your new phone.

If you have an older Motorola Device, the Touchless Control app isn’t available for your device unfortunately, with the Touchless controls only available to the ‘new’ Motorola phones – although you can Migrate from them ;). It remains to be seen what will happen with the Touchless Control function under the stewardship of Lenovo, but it works well on the Moto G and it would be a shame for it to fall by the wayside.

Do you own a Moto X or a Moto G? Have you received the update to the touch less control app? What do you think of the new features?

Hi Ausdroid team, can you confirm that the touchless controls app is still available for use on the Moto G? I recently purchased one and I the Play Store tells me that my device is not compatible.
