It looks as if Samsung’s roadmap for updating its top tier devices to Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been leaked, and the news is especially good for the owners of Samsung’s most recent devices, the Note 5 and S6 Edge+.
The rollout is due to commence in December 2015, with the Note 5 and S6 Edge+ the first devices to receive the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. These two will be closely followed by the S6 and S6 Edge from earlier in 2015, with an update expected in January 2016. Previous devices, including the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge, are slated for a February 2016 release.
While the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Alpha appear on the update schedule for phase one, no dates have been fixed, noting that they are ‘waiting approval’. A number of other devices are mentioned as waiting for approval too, including a range of Samsung tablets (Galaxy A3, A5, A7 and A8) as well as the Galaxy E5 and E7.
As with any leak / rumour, there’s little to be sure that this is legit; anyone can photoshop a Samsung logo onto an image and make it look somewhat official, but on the flipside, there is some reason to believe that Samsung will release Marshmallow for the Note 5 / S6 Edge + first, and a December timeframe does seem somewhat reasonable given its about three to four months after the devices’ release, and about three months since the final Marshmallow code was released.
It’s worth noting that this list does (for the most part) line up with the speculated device list released a few weeks ago.
