Samsung is testing its Android 6.0 Marshmallow implementation with UK owners of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, according to reports from SamMobile. Following a recruitment exercise, beta users have now been selected and the beta firmware has started rolling out to these users.
There’s a number of screenshots available, thanks to users who’ve taken to XDA Developers’ forums with their new devices. Before we get to those, here’s the new features that we know about so far:
- New fluid animations and effects
- An option to save images / photos in RAW format
- Pro mode in the Camera app which allows control of shutter speed
- A new power menu
- Customisable lock screen shortcuts
- New colour for quick settings panel
- Ability to enable or disable fast charging
- Add apps directly to a folder from within the folder
- New app permissions
- Google Now on Tap

The beta program isn’t available to users in Australia, and might not be, but if you’re desperate to get onto Marshmallow with your Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge, and you have a G920F / G925F model, you can download the firmware and flash it manually with these instructions. Users of other models, including the G920i and G925i models sold in Australia, are advised to steer clear for now, as you’ll likely wreck your phone if you don’t know what you’re doing.
