We can’t yet pre-order the Pixel 2 as yet here in Australia, but with the phone announced it seems Google is opening up about the camera today offering photo and video samples.
We’ve seen the technical run-down on how Google made the camera on the Pixel 2, now it’s time to just appreciate how good these shots are. There are a total of 34 photos and videos in this https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipO2_gTkgT1QwgYaWCTowaN6d2Cb5rvyJU10cjAdSU9Ao8v9Ec-r1v1cKdWEx6PNqg?key=WEdYT3BMNFZGdUlwQ0l6aEdFT1UwVlg2LUZESDhnGoogle photos album shared on the Google Support forum by Googler ‘IsaacOnCamera’ or Isaac Reynolds who spoke about EIS in the Pixel phones last year.
The Google Pixel 2 (and 2 XL) have the same camera, a 12.2MP sensor with 1.4μm pixel size. The camera comes with everything to try making it great in low-light and offset any shaking in your hands with Optical + electronic image stabilisation and autofocus using laser + dual pixel phase detection. That f/1.8 aperture should also make for an interesting time in low-light and the 8MP selfie camera with Portrait mode should be good too.
So, technicalities aside, the photos and video coming from the camera look really great. Here’s a selection:
There’s some good video examples of what Optical and Electronic Image Stabilisation does on video captured on the Pixel 2 as well.
It’s always fun to see DxOMark scores rolled out at launch these days and the 98 scored by Google with the Pixel 2 seems good, but the proof of course is always in the pudding and here are the examples, check them out and let us know what you think.
Any word on when we will be able to pre-order?
I think i saw something bout the 20th of Oct
Not worth $1500 by a long shot. The latest firmware update for the oneplus 5 has improved the photos a lot and at less than half the price worth it.
Great looking photos! I wish mine would turn out similar haha
