The original (well 3rd generation) Xiaomi Mi Box announced at Google I/O in 2016 is about to be updated with the company inviting press to an event on January 29th in China.

The Mi Box 4 will hopefully improve on the original Mi Box, while retaining the extremely cheap price which included 4K streaming. There’s no information or leaks on what we can expect on the device, but the invite shared with outlets shows a happy little Mi Box cartoon with what appears to be smart home voice commands such as “I want to see Action Film”, “Beijing How is the weather today?” all around indicating Google Assistant – or perhaps a Xiaomi assistant could be on-board.

There are two things on my wishlist for a Mi Box 4, an ethernet port and an updated processor. The Wi-Fi connection and generic Quad-core Cortex-A53 2.0GHz processor on the original never really enough for 4K streaming – for my preferences anyway.

We’ll sure know about the new Mi Box soon enough, and hopefully we’ll see them showing up on exporters websites very soon after.

It would be nice if they actually updated the Mi Box 3 at some point instead of everyone searching for the beta to manually flash themselves!

I think a lot of people will hope it has frame rate switching capability that Kodi can use.. as it never worked on the 3.
