The anticipated launch of the Galaxy S9/S9+ at Mobile World Congress is slowly being leaked and tonight we’re seeing a significant leak with specs, features and press renders showing up.

The leak comes courtesy of Roland Quandt of WinFuture.de who has provided details on features, colours, and specs. The phones will again feature their now signature 18.5:9 aspect ratio, QHD+ (2960×1440) resolution Super AMOLED ‘Infinity Display’ in 5.8″ size for the Galaxy S9, while the Galaxy S9+ will have a 6.2″ display.

As rumoured, the phones will split in specs on the camera. Both will have a 12MP sensor with options for either f/2.4 or f/1.5 aperture, but the S9+ will get a second 12MP sensor with fixed f/2.4 aperture. Both will include super slow-motion capture for video at up to 960fps, and both benefit from laser and dual-pixel autofocus for sharp pictures.

On the front of the phones, a single 8MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture will make for a stunningly sharp low-light capable selfie camera. The front is also expected to house improved sensors for face detection/unlock which will be used for the rumoured animoji-like feature.

Under the hood, the phones also differ on RAM – 4GB for the S9, 6GB for the S9+ – and battery – 3,000mAh for the S9 and 3,500mAh for the S9+ – both with wireless charging. For most of the world (including Australia), Samsungs Exynos 9810 SoC will power the phones, while China and the US will utilise the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.

There’s more angles of the phones over at WinFuture.de if you want to check them out.

According to Roland, the S9/S9+ will go on-sale on March 8th, though it’s unclear as to whether that’s a European, US or Global launch date. We’ll be there in Spain for the launch, so if you have questions, we’ll be there to ask them.

The hype trains has kicked off well and truly. Woolworths is already advertising pre-orders from the 27th. Most people won’t be able to tell you which model it actually is. S8 or S9.

Glenn

So bang for buck when generally is the better time to buy the previous model? Will the S8 drop in price much?

Joshua Hill

Manufacturers should release their best camera tech in their flagships. Why is it that the flagship S9 gets an inferior camera?

chris

why would you buy this one, seems to me to be the 8 with a new CPU. Not having a go just an observation, same old same old.

Chris

And yet they have a go at Apple for doing the same thing.

Really

Samsung design will be in it’s 2nd year with the S9 the Iphone is in it’s 4th year – 6,6s,7 and now 8.

chris

The samsung design has been similar for more than the 2nd year. they extended the screen length but still the same design for a couple before that from memory, still not as bad as apple

For those that buy Samsung it isn’t so bad as last years phone is indistinguishable from this years phone so you don’t feel out of date I guess.

Oldmike

Well I would say the case design is very close to lat years model ,
But upgraded chip set , upgraded camera , relocated finger print sensor (hooray ! ) , allegedly upgraded Iris/face scan which means alterations to screen hardware ,
and no doubt hopefully other improvements and features over last year’s model too ,
not to mention it will still have a headphone jack and SD card .
So if this is outdated , I LIKE IT .

chris

Noo I meant users of last years model won’t feel outdated. If your phone is 2 years old then sure great update for you.

Andrew

I guess if you upgrade every two years and are in the Galaxy S5/7/9 cycle, you’d get this.

Agree it’s somewhat underwhelming. Guess I’ll wait to see what software features it has.
