Google’s Pixel range has built a bit of a name for itself as a quality Android handset with – more recently, at least – premium smartphone features an a pure Google package.

The Pixel 2 XL is getting on to two years old now, and while that’s a decent age in smartphone terms, it still represents an excellent purchase, especially at a discounted price.

At the moment, JB HiFi is doing a deal on precisely this phone, offering the Google Pixel 2 XL 64GB model for just $599 outright. That’s right, it’s not contingent on signing up to any carrier deals or anything else.

Despite being a 2017 smartphone, the Pixel 2 XL features a 6-inch touchscreen, 4GB of internal RAM and one of the best smartphone cameras (front and back) that you can buy. Yes, the likes of Oppo’s Reno 5G and Huawei’s P30 Pro can run rings around the Pixel 2’s photo quality and capabilities, but they cost anywhere up to three times as much.

On top of still-excellent hardware, the Pixel range receives some of the longest guaranteed software updates around – two years of major software updates (so the Pixel 2 XL will see Android Q) and three years of monthly security updates. For $599 to get 2019’s latest OS and security updates through to October 2020 is a pretty decent offer.

For those looking to spend a little less and still walk away with a great phone, this is an option well worth considering.

Pretty good price but After owning a Pixel 2XL with an average display, dodgy USB-C port and bugs a plenty I think you’d be better off asking for a deal on a Pixel 3a/3a XL instead.

Mmm, maybe I got a lemon. Mind you the display was pretty bad compared to the 3a
