Withings is no newcomer to the health-tracking hybrid smartwatch, in fact they’re one of the longest playing in the field. This year at CES they have unveiled their latest entrant that can monitor your heart rate, ECG rhythm and oxygen saturation levels, which for some people may be critical data.

With the ability to monitor HR, SpO2 and your cardiac rhythm the ScanWatch is certainly collecting the correct data to provide a fairly complete picture of your cardiovascular health, not to mention insights into potential health issues such as sleep apnoea. Withings has stated that their ECG is “medical grade” so hopefully the insights calculated from these sensors and the inboard software are accurate. Having helpful technology is one thing, having technology that misses something or makes you scared is another.

Being a smartwatch the features don’t stop there with the ScanWatch also includes notification support, activity tracking, GPS integration from your phone, water-resistant to 5 ATM, interchangeable watch bands and up to 30 days battery life. The keystone features of the ScanWatch are definitely the health tracking sensors, and for some people that might be exactly what they want.

The ScanWatch will come in two size variants, a 38mm for US$249 and a 42mm for US$299, we’ve been told that the Australian Launch pricing will start from $479 AUD. The watches will launch in Q2 of this year assuming it clears the regulatory requirements of a device with these kinds of sensors on board. It’s unclear when it will come to Australia at this point but Withings do have a good track record of supporting Australia customers.
