We all expected Samsung to announce the Galaxy Z Flip 5G at their Unpacked event on August 6 AEST but it seems they have decided that there may already be too many announcements there so have overnight unveiled the new Galaxy Z Flip 5G and it isn’t just the standard Z Flip with 5G (although it is very close).
The new Galaxy Z Flip 5G is a more powerful version of the original Z Flip we checked out earlier this year with the Snapdragon 855+ replaced with the Snapdragon 865 Plus — and of course costs just that little bit extra.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5G arrives will all of the other specs unchanged from the original Galaxy Z Flip including a 6.7-inch foldable AMOLED screen with a 1080P resolution. Memory-wise it will house 8GB of RAM supported by 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The front-facing camera will still be a 10MP lens inside the display notch and the rear camera module will still house dual 12MP sensors (wide and ultra-wide).
The side-mounted fingerprint sensor is still present and the battery is specced at 3,300mAh with support for gentle 15W “fast” charging and wireless charging. At this stage the new software enhancements include improved Flex Mode and Edge Panel with more unannounced at this stage.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5G does support the N78 Australian 5G bands but at this stage it is unclear whether it will arrive here in Australia — we will reach out to Samsung today regarding that. It will arrive in “selected markets” (which hopefully includes Australia) in Mystic Gray and Mystic Bronze.
Did anyone buy the first generation Z Flip? Would you consider a slightly more expensive “second” generation or will you wait for the true second generation next year?
