Sony has launched its latest earbuds which are an interesting and somewhat novel design, called the LinkBuds. The development of the earbuds is being hailed as a new frontier for headphones by Sony. The LinkBuds are a unique ring design with audio transparency links online and offline worlds for a “Never Off” wearing experience.

Sony has said the LinkBuds are creating new sound experiences together with their partners, such as AR gaming, new work from home experiences, sound AR navigation, and quick access to music.

Sony has said that the LinkBuds have been created with a unique open ring design that allows you to tune into the outside world whenever you want, without compromising your listening experience. The Sony LinkBuds come with Adaptive Volume Control that will automatically optimise the volume based on where you are, letting your music seamlessly blend into your surroundings.

One of the cool features of the LinkBuds is the ability for the buds to automatically pause your music as soon as you speak to someone. This feature is called Speak-to-Chat and basically ensures the need for you not to be able to manually pause your music via hand or finger gestures.

The LinkBuds will also be able to command your favourite personal digital assistant, with the ability to engage either the Google Assistant or Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant by simply saying the trigger word like ‘Alexa’ or ‘Hey Google’. They are also enabled to support Google’s helpful new Fast Pair feature, meaning you can connect it to your Android device within seconds. If you’re keen to connect to a desktop option, there is also ‘Swift Pair’ which will allow you to quickly pair your LinkBuds to your Windows 11 or Windows 10 laptop, desktop PC or tablet.

As a final highlight to the audio experience, the LinkBuds provide enhanced capabilities integrated with Microsoft Soundscape alongside 360 Reality Audio. This ensures your music can feel as real as if you were in the front row at a live concert or at the recording studio alongside your favourite artist.

They are rated to IPX4 water resistance, have a battery life of up to 5.5 hours of playtime, with an additional 12 hours playback coming from the sleek and compact case. If you get caught short, you can gain 90 minutes of playtime with just 10 minutes of charging.

The Sony LinkBuds will be available from the Sony website and partner retailers from April 22nd for approximately $299.95 in either white or matte black colours.
