As I revealed last week Amazon Australia has released a free software update so that Echo Show 15 smart displays now have Fire TV functionality, adding many new apps to the 15.6″ screen playback capability and the ability to use an optional physical remote.

I have been using the update for 24 hours. These are some photos and comments about the experience so you know what to expect.

Fire TV apps on the Echo Show 15 can be accessed via the swipe down menu or by pressing the little Fire TV button in the top right hand corner when the device is cycling through weather, photos etc.

There are a lot more streaming options like STAN, Youtube and Disney+ as well as all the free to air TV catchup apps (ABC, 7, 9, 10 and SBS) but the Foxtel brands like Kayo and BINGE are still missing (just like on the Fire TV sticks/Cube).

There’s a new on screen remote you can use once a streaming app is open but navigation is a lot easier with the Alexa Voice Remote 3rd Gen (pictured) or the Alexa Voice Remote Pro.

Once a streaming app is open it works and looks exactly the same as on a TV with Fire TV stick/Cube attached.

That makes the Echo Show 15 with Alexa Voice Remote 3rd Gen bundle a perfect end of year Christmas buy for either yourself or a family member who’d like a 15.6 inch touchscreen smart display for the kitchen or dining room, that has lots of streaming apps available whether you want to watch news, entertainment or anything else.

lol! Amazon revealed it, not you. You just reported on it.

Ahmad

Is twitch app available on it?

Ahmad

Go inside appstore and twitch is under photography category not entertainment
