Probably one of the nicest and most popular smartwatch/fitness bands introduced so far this year has been the Samsung Gear Fit. Its feature rich, well designed hardware not only looks good, but is supposedly pretty functional according to Samsung, but the $249 price tag has put a number of people off, but it’s on-sale at the moment through DWI Digital Cameras for just $139.

The deal includes delivery and is around $100 off the price you’ll find at a lot of places around Australia. The band is only available in one colour – Charcol Black, so no Mocha Grey or Orange options here.

The Gear Fit is supposed to be only compatible with Samsung devices, but there has been some limited success (i.e there’s no guarantee this will work for your phone) connecting them to non-Samsung phones. To pair the Gear Fit, you’ll need to side-load the Gear Fit Manager and Gear Fitness APKs, note you will need a phone with Bluetooth 4.0 LE for this to pair.

For the spec junkies playing at home, a reminder of what’s included in the Gear Fit hardware :

  • 1.84” Curved Super AMOLED (432×128)
  • Changeable Strap
  • Pedometer, Exercise, Heart Rate, Sleep, Stopwatch, Timer, Notifications (SMS, Call, E-mail, Apps), Schedule, Smart Relay, Media Controller
  • IP67 Dust and Water Resistant
  • Bluetooth® v4.0 LE
  • Accelerometer, Gyro, Heart Rate
  • Battery 210mAh – 3-4 days, Low Usage up to 5 days
  • 23.4 x 57.4 x 11.95 mm, 27g

Jason quite liked the hardware when he reviewed the Gear Fit back in April, so if you’ve been on the fence as to whether to grab one or not, this could be your cheapest option. Better hurry, though, there’s no telling how long the price will stay this low for.

DWI are great as long as the goods arrive in good condition and never break. After-sales service is like playing russian roulette. Pay extra for shipping insurance. Stuff has a tendency of going missing.
