accessories
With the launch of new Google Pixel phones, of course you want to buy a new accessory for your new device to protect it, or even be able to charge it in more places. Google has launched a new range of cases and chargers on the Google Store ready for you to buy.

There are both basic cases and Live cases for your new Pixel – or in the case of the Live cases for you Nexus 5X or 6P as well), as well as new chargers and cables available to purchase.

Cases

The basic cases are a clear colour so you can see your new Pixel, and feature an ultra-thin design that Google says ‘helps protect without adding unnecessary bulkiness, and allows quick, precise access to all your buttons and sensors’. The case is made of a Polycarbonate and weighs in at just 12grams, so it should be pretty decent and light.

The basic case costs $50AUD from the Google Store and is available for both the Pixel and Pixel XL.

The ‘Pixel Case’ by Google offers a bit more protection for your phone as well as colour options. The Pixel Case will be available in Grey, Blue, Green, Peach or Coral colour options with the case made of three protective materials for extra support. The Pixel Case has a silicone exterior for shock absorption that is also easy to grip, while a polycarbonate core adds support and a premium microfibre interior means your phone doesn’t get scratched in the case.

The whole setup even with three layers weighs in at just 24 grams so it should be a minimalist type addition to your phone but adds some much needed protection.

The Pixel Case will be available to order for just $55 when they arrive on the store. Google hasn’t advised release dates for the cases, but we imagine it won’t be long.

The new Live cases are now available to order in Maps, Photos or Artworks editions for just $60. There’s a bunch of designs from artists like Australian digital artist Justin Maller or Astronaut Chris Hadfield to choose from in the Artworks editions, or you can upload a favourite pic, or get your favourite place printed on your case. You can check out more about the Live cases here.

Chargers and Cables

Google has added three new options for the Pixel phones, including a spare 18 W USB-C Power Adaptor, a USB-C to USB-C Cable and a USB-C to USB-A Cable. We hope they’ve checked with Benson Leung or Google fans will never be able to buy them – Spoiler: They have).

The 18W charger will cost $55 while the USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C cables will cost $35 each.

The charger includes a 1.8-metre USB-C to USB-C cable and comes in grey, and supports the quick charge function that Google announced with the Pixel phones. The Charger is only recommended for use with the Pixel and Pixel XL, so if you’re looking for a new Nexus 5X/6P or Pixel C charger look at the already existing options available. The USB-C cables are also 1.8m in length and support USB-C charging delivering up to 60W at 3A.

None of the chargers or cables are available on the store as yet, and Google hasn’t announced any time frames for them as yet but we’ll be keeping an eye out for when they go live.

Still can’t buy the charger on the Australian Google website and they don’t allow you to buy it anywhere else. Seems ridiculous! It’s been months since the phone was released.
