Makers of the Ring Video Doorbell which recently launched in Australia have today announced their new Ring Floodlight Cam at CES.

The Ring Floodlight Cam is similar in scope to the Video Doorbell but connects instead to a Floodlight, allowing you to connect to the camera at will, and turn on the light or use the night vision to check out what’s happening around your home. The Floodlight Cam offers 270-degree motion detection and the same 2-way voice chat of the doorbell, with the addition of a 100dB siren to really scare any potential intruders (or that dog that keeps messing up your lawn) away.

The Ring Floodlight Cam features an improved camera with a 1080P sensor for capturing FullHD video that uploads straight to the cloud for future playback. That playback won’t be cheap if you’re adding a second device as you’ll also be paying for an additional cloud storage fee for the new device. It’s not ideal, but if you want everything backed up nicely this is your option at this stage.

The Ring Floodlight Cam is a self-install unit which can utilise the existing floodlight wiring if you have a floodlight in place – obviously if you want to put one in a new position however, your local sparky is your best bet to deal with those pesky wires.
