Chromecast
Chromecast has been available in Australia since late May, when it launched on Google Play and at retailers JB HiFi and Dick Smith. The availability of Chromecast looks to be expanding however, with discount department store Big W advertising the HDMI dongle in their Fathers Day special catalogue for $48.

The catalogue begins on August 28th, and runs through until the 6th of September. At this stage Chromecast does not show up in a search of the Big W website, but that should change shortly. The Google Chromecast ‘Buy It Now’ page also doesn’t recognise Big W as a retailer as yet, but as we found out with Google Play Gift Cards, sometimes Google can be a little slow updating these things.

There’s all sorts of reasons to get a Chromecast, from YouTube, Browsing the net or screen mirroring through to streaming video locally through Plex or from off the internet through Presto, Quickflix or Netflix. With more places selling the dongle, of course that means more convenience, as well as competition on price. So far we’ve seen Dick Smith leading the way on that front with online sales, but if you need one quickly you can now duck into a Big W store.
