With Android TV consoles, it seems Nvidia is the clear winner for the time being with their Shield TV box, but it’s getting a little long in the tooth. That is about to change with leaks from the FCC and now a press render of two different sized devices has appeared.

The two boxes are pictured, but no details on internal specs have been included with the renders. There’s a larger sized option and a smaller size. We can speculate all we want about a portable option, but there’s little information out there. So, here are the two renders:

If this is indeed the box that went through the FCC earlier this year, the only specs we can confirm are that it will have WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE and a 19V 2.1A power source. But that’s about it.

There’s a close up render of the new Shield TV controller which appears to have had a makeover from the original, with a new angular (almost polygon like) texture on the controller, with the ShieldTV shortcut keys moved to the bottom for easier thumb access perhaps. You can see the Old (Left) and the New (Right) controllers here:

Nvidia haven’t announced these yet, so it’s a matter of wait and see. We’ve still yet to see an official Nvidia release channel for Australia so if you’re after one of these when they’re announced you’ll likely have to jump onto the grey import bandwagon. We’ll be watching and asking Nvidia when they officially announce these if they have any plans for an AU launch.

Still using my first gen one and its got better over time with the addition of Plex Media Server software! I need to buy a TV for my sons room and am currently thinking of a Sony with Android TV built in but this might be a better option! Getting a big HD in it would be a prime consideration to support local Plex content!

So they are going to release one of these every 1.5 years? Kinda lame
