Bang & Olufsen has announced a new Chromecast compatible standalone Bluetooth speaker, the Beoplay M5, is now available for purchase in Australia and New Zealand.

Designed by award-winning Danish industrial designer, Cecilie Manz. The Beoplay M5 has a minimalist look that should fit in with any decor in two colour choices: Natural and Black, though other ‘seasonal’ choices will be available at a later stage.

The Beoplay M5 offers a stylish speaker with multi-room capability thanks to in-built Chromecast support and Bang & Olufsen’s own Beolink Multiroom system. The speaker also operates on Bluetooth, or for our iOS using friends it supports Apple Airplay as well. You can also connect a 3.5mm headphone jack to the unit…if your phone supports that ;).

The Beoplay M6 contains a range of speakers including a 5″ woofer, 1.5″ midrange driver and 3, ¾” tweeters for an omnidirectional sound.

The speakera is available to purchase now through the Beoplay website and third party retailers where it’s priced at $899 AUD / $975 NZD.

Sure the speaker looks attractive. But the price makes Sonos look cheap.
