Hisense has announced that Australia is the first country in the world that they will sell OLED TV’s in. The new Hisense OLED models were expected to be at a sharp price point but the 55-inch and 65-inch models announced today have mid-market RRPs of $3,499 and $4,999 respectively.
Ausdroid has obtained specifications of the Hisense OLED 65PX model (PDF).
Highlights include:
- Visuals: Quad Core Processor, Wide viewing angle, 10bit colour, HDR
- Sound: Bottom speakers (large chamber), Dolby audio, dbxXtv audio
- Design: frame, stand and back are sculpted from metal, Super slim, Bezel less
- User Experience: VIDAA U 2.5 operating system, Easily customisable user interface, works with RemoteNow smart phone app, App store includes Netflix, Stan YouTube (all 3 in 4K).
- HDMI details: HDMI type 4K@60Hz with HDCP version 2.2 Yes (HDMI 1, HDMI 2), HDMI type 1.4 with HDCP version 1.4 Yes (HDMI 3, HDMI 4), HDMI 2.0 compliant input Yes (HDMI 1, HDMI 2).
As with all OLED TV’s you can expect the Hisense models to excel at displaying true black images with the new OLED models specs including: 4K Ultra-HD, 10 bit Wide Colour Gamut, support High Dynamic Range (HDR10 and HLG) and have a 200hz Smooth Motion Rate.
Disappointingly for a flagship product the Hisense 65PX OLED TV doesn’t have Bluetooth built-in for wireless headphone audio listening while viewing.
The HiSense range of OLED TVs launching include not Android TV, but their own flavour of Smart TV UI. HiSense recognise the prevalance of smartphones in use and have provided the RemoteNow app (mentioned above) for free in Google Play and the iOS app store.
Refreshingly for a technology company their spokesperson Chris Mayer, Product Specialist at Hisense Australia was quite honest about comparing the strengths and weaknesses of OLED and LED TV’s:
“The type of TV you should purchase really depends on your space and viewing habits. The Hisense OLED display offers striking contrast and deep blacks, making it a great choice for Australians that enjoy regularly watching movies at home. Viewing films on an OLED TV in a dark environment is recommended, as it heightens the contrast and allows the colour to really pop off the screen”.
“ULED, on the other hand, provides a brighter viewing experience that is effective at offsetting natural light – such as that in open plan living rooms. The Hisense Series 9 ULED TV is particularly good in this scenario because it offers 2500-nit Peak Brightness, ensuring contrast and image quality is maintained even if the space is flooded with light”.
Hisense OLED 55″ and 65″ TV’s will be available from JB Hi FI, Harvey Norman, Good Guys, Bing Lee and Domayne.
