Samsung originally teased a successor to the Tizen-powered Samsung Gear S smartwatch at the end of their latest unpacked event. Today while espousing the virtues of their recent released devices and further teasing the Samsung Gear 2 they also made a somewhat cryptic comment.

… with the debut of the Samsung Gear S2 fast approaching, “curved” is going all-out “circular.”

This comment seems to be hinting at a smartwatch display that is both round and curved. While the actual benefits of this are unclear, Samsung is not unaccustomed to just trying something to see if it works. The original Gear S was a Tizen-based smartwatch that included a SIM card for independent cellular connectivity but was only compatible with Samsung phones.

While Samsung has previously updated their watches running Android to run Tizen there is no indication that they will do this for their “signature” smartwatch, nor is there any indication if they will extend compatibility to non-Samsung Android Phones. We won’t have long to wait with Samsung set to announce the Gear S 2 at IFA in Berlin this September. Ausdroid will be covering IFA live from on the ground this year so tune in for all of our coverage.
Are you excited to see what Samsung will be doing with their Smartwatch screen technology? If you were to design your perfect Smartwatch would-would it be?

Maybe it is like..um.. like 3.5D glass but more spherical? Slight fisheye effect?
Am I making sense?

Guess that comment means curved becoming circular. ….so far from the teaser is only circular and is no need to become curved. ….and you the only site posting this strange rumor
