Huawei’s Android Wear packing smartwatch, aptly named the Watch has finally gone official and is available for pre-order today if you live in the right country.

The Watch is now up for pre-order in Canada, Germany, France, Spain and Italy this month with prices beginning at €399.00 and expanding up to €699.00 depending on which design takes your fancy. The Watch will come in rose gold, stainless steel and black case options, with matching or complimentary straps which connect to the 18mm lugs, the bands come in a variety of materials and designs from stainless steel mesh, stainless steel links, rose gold, and black-plated stainless steel links, to brown and black leather.

The Huawei Watch is a 42mm diameter watch, with a 1.4″ 400×400 resolution, 286 PPI AMOLED Display which resolves at a 10,000:1 high contrast ratio and is covered with a sapphire crystal coating for protection. The watch has a crown (physical button) on the side located at the 2 o’clock position which makes it ideal location to avoid accidental presses when you’re active.

Under the hood, you will find a Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM and comes with the latest version of Android Wear as well as ver 40 pre-installed classic watch faces. The Huawei Watch doesn’t have a GPS but it does contain a built-in heart rate monitor and 6-Axis motion sensors to actually track your health.

The Huawei Watch works with devices running Android 4.3 and above, or as of earlier this week running iOS 8 or above.

The watches are now up for pre-order in the US, but will be available in Australia later this year and we have contacted Huawei Australia for more information on the launch. If you want to get ahead of the pack though, you can get one, or at least pre-order one from Amazon right now:

Why does it have 10,000:1 contrast ratio? Doesn’t AMOLED have infinite contrast because it can turn off each pixel?

I find the prices hard to swallow for a smartwatch. I wonder how well it’s going to sell.

The “low-end” 400 Euro price quoted here is roughly double what I paid for my Moto360. It doesn’t look like double the watch.

I agree. It does look very expensive for a watch which probably can hardly last a day without needing a recharge.
