New Balance Intel
Intel’s press events are generally quite fun, with a lot of aspirational technology announced, but they also announce new partnerships and upcoming products. The latest announced today is a partnership with sportswear maker New Balance, which will see a range of new products released over the coming years. The first out of the blocks will be an Android Wear watch for launch later this year.

There’s little known about the watch, it will be powered by Intel, and it will also have built-in GPS to enable runners and athletes to exercise untethered from their phones. The untethered part also includes bringing their music with them, so you’ll also be pairing a bluetooth headset to the watch – although by the time the launch occurs the speaker option on Android Wear will most likely be old news.

Speaking about the new partnership and products, Brian Krzanich, CEO, Intel Corporation said

Technology has tremendous power to make the amazing possible, and nowhere is that more apparent than in sports and fitness. As an avid runner, I look forward to seeing how our collaboration with New Balance and their deep intelligence about the running experience can unlock the performance potential for runners everywhere.

As with the growing number of new Android Wear devices in partnership with fashion brands, it’s unclear on how wide-spread the launch will be. New Balance is quite widely available in Australia and the World, so we could quite possibly see a launch here in the months leading up to Christmas this year.

What would you like to see in an Android Wear watch designed for athletes?
