Google announces seven new Android apps are now available on ChromeOS

Since announcing at this years Google I/O that Android apps would soon be making their way to ChromeOS, Google has carefully released a slow trickle of Android apps which have been ported over to ChromeOS using the App Runtime for Chrome extension. Today, Google has announced that seven more will join the ever growing list.

At this stage, Google has only named three of the seven, announcing that Cookpad Recipes, Couchsurfing and Overdrive are now available from the Chrome Webstore. So, what do these apps do?

• Cookpad Recipes: Cookpad is the best place to share recipes. Join the vibrant cooks community!
• Couchsurfing: Find hosts anywhere in the world. Stay with locals instead of staying at hotels or hostels.
• Overdrive: Borrow eBooks and audiobooks from your library using OverDrive. More than 30,000 libraries worldwide offer titles from OverDrive.

As for which other four Android apps are now available on ChromeOS, we actually don’t know, but Google points users to the “Available for Android” collection on the Chrome Web Store, so if you can find which ones they are, let us know.

Google is still accepting submissions for which Android apps should appear next on ChromeOS on their form.

• Ankidroid: AnkiDroid lets you learn flashcards very efficiently by showing them just before you will forget. It is fully compatible with the spaced repetition software Anki (including synchronization), which is available for Windows, Linux and MacOS.
