Owners of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A (2016) can start mashing those ‘Check for Updates’ buttons, with the Nougat update for the tablet now rolling out.

The update has been reported going to retail models of the tablet purchased here in Australia. The 1GB, Android 7.0 update includes the May 2017 security patch, in line with the Nougat update heading out to other devices around the world.

The Nougat update for the Galaxy Tab A (2016) includes a new UX with improvements to the notifications and quick settings built-in. The update also includes improvements for the Multi-Window feature that Google incorporated natively in Android 7.0.

Want to see if your tablet is ready for the update? Go to Settings > About Device > Download Updates Manually to see if there’s an update waiting.

Thanks: Joybrata.

This must be for the 10.1″ version. I have a SM-T280 TAB A (2016) 7″ tablet which is still running Android 5.1.1. After reading this article, I checked for an update and was informed, very politely, that my current software version T280XXU0AQD1 is the most current version with the latest updates. Would love to root and custom ROM it but I cannot find the most appropriate thread on XDA.

You should always go into recovery mode and wipe cache after a big update (eg Android 6.0 – 7.0)

If that doesn’t work factory reset is also recommended for big updates.

I downloaded it this morning. The tablet is now slow, hangs up and freezes, and it is impossible to switch to other users. Oh and the battery life is halved. Way to go Nougat

Sounds like I should be glad that v5.1.1 is the best my TAB A 2016 can receive at the moment.
