Google’s October 4th event (October 5th here in Australia) is shaping up to be quite a big deal. Not only phones are expected, but an entire suite of products as well, including a new 4K compatible Chromecast Ultra. This morning Evan Blass has come through yet again with renders of the device, which surprisingly similar to the existing Chromecast 2.
The Chromecast Ultra will from the looks of the render, include the Google ‘G’ we’ve been seeing on the #MadeByGoogle signage that’s been doing the rounds in Australia, and the world.
The Chromecast may run the new ChromeCast, or Google Cast firmware – version 1.21 – when it launches that was rolled out to Chromecast Beta users this past weekend. That update began removing Chromecast brnading, instead replacing it with that now familiar ‘G’ logo.
According to a report from Android Police, the dongle will cost $69USD which we estimate could be around $99 when it launches here in Australia. The increase cost could be due to better Wi-Fi used on the device, as well as better processing to handle the demands of rendering 4K contenet.

Anyone know if existing 4K hardware like the Shield TV supports casting in 4K? If it doesn’t I’m curious to see if Google will roll this functionality out to the Shield TV and Mi Box after the Chromecast Ultra is announced.
