Google’s Android Developers blog has this morning announced that their Alpha Android development environment – Android Studio – has entered the Beta phase. The release has come just after Google I/O, which allows Google to move some of the projects announced at the conference into the open, projects such as Android Wear and Android TV, and of course the newest Android build – the L Preview.
The newest release of Android Studio (v0.8.0 for those counting) includes the latest APIs(level 20), for KitKat as well as the L Preview. But Google warns developers that the APIs are not complete and may change, so advise developers that they cannot publish apps created with this API level to Google Play.
Android Studio incorporates designs and tools to help developers develop using the new Material Design elements announced by Matias Duarte at Google I/O. It also includes support for Android Wear and Android TV :
- Incorporate the new material design and interaction elements of the L Developer Preview SDK
- Quickly create and build apps with a new app wizard and layout editor support for Android Wear and Android TV
If you’re interested in trying out the latest Android L Preview, you will of course need a Nexus 5 or Nexus 7(2013) Wifi, and can download the images from the Android L Preview site. If you’re interested in the Android Studio Beta, you can download the software for Mac, Windows and Linux from the Android Developers SDK website.
