Get your chocolatey Kit Kat treat Galaxy S4 owners, at least those of you who own the GT-i9505 version, with SamMobiles yesterday posting links to a leaked test build of the Kit Kat update for the device.

The build that has been leaked, is a test build which apart from a few minor hiccoughs is mostly stable. SamMobiles showed off a screenshot on Twitter the other day of the new look lock screen and corresponding camera shortcut as well as the new look transparent status bar with white icons, after Samsung failed to announce anything about Kit Kat at their CES Keynote in Las Vegas this week.

The update also includes a few tweaks to the underlying OS which sees a speed increase – apparently benchmark scores are improved – and a tweak to the Samsung Keyboard when in landscape mode.

As an aside, this morning they did advise that the Android 4.4.2 build for the Note 3 was too buggy for a release :

The full rollout of Android 4.4.2 for the Galaxy S4, is expected to hit in February/March, beginning as usual in Europe and expanding out to future markets. Distribution to Australian Carriers – Optus(OPS), Telstra(TEL), Vodafone(VAU) – for testing should occur quite soon, but open handsets should begin seeing the update pushing out through Kies or OTA sooner.

Details on the build :
Model: GT-I9505
Country: Open Europe
Version: Android 4.4.2
Changelist: 276328
Build date: Thu, 2 Jan 2014 23:30:51 +0000
Product Code: OXA
PDA: I9505XXUFNA1
CSC: I9505OXAFNA1
MODEM: I9505XXUFNA1

Head on over to SamMobiles for Screenshots as well as links to download the firmware – always backup your device prior to trying this – and see what you think.

Still waiting for 4.3 on my GS3 here. Hopefully it won’t take more than a few weeks, seeing as it’s rolling out in other regions.

Hi gemini. I have a Kogan GS4. I upgraded to 4.3 around early Nov last year. You may want to try checking for updates on your phone which is what I did

gemini67

Hey Damien, yep been doing that since November, thanks, I’ll keep checking

Installed this on mine a couple of days ago and it seems good so far. Chainfire has released a new CF-Autoroot which works better with this and it will disable KNOX for you as well if you wish. I switched over to this in the hope it was more stable than a lot of the GE or AOSP kitkat roms out there which I haven’t been too successful with.
